Welcome to Ashby Art !

Ashby Art is Marie South's website and some of the work  shown is available for purchase. Please use the contact form if you wish to purchase an item.

Marie enjoys going from an initial idea,  to sketches to compose a picture and then moving on to paint, felt, sew or print it.  She finds it very satisfying  to see an idea come to fruition in a frame!. Her inspiration comes from in her surroundings, particularly the Derbyshire countryside and the small village which she lives in, near Ashby de la Zouch.  A wide variety of countryside animals and plants influence  her work.   Marie is also a keen photographer and she finds that photography, printmaking, feltmaking and painting complement each other. Printing and photography has extended her interest into landscapes, perspective and architectural forms.

In 2019, Marie successfully entered some of her work into juried national exhibitions and has continued to exhibit each year, as well as continuing to support her local clubs' exhibitions. To date, her work has been selected and included in two Harley Open exhibitions, Patchings Amateur Artist, various RBSA exhibitions, Leicester Museum Open, various exhibitions at the Sock gallery, Loughborough, Derby Open Print, and Ty Pawb International Print Exhibition.

Marie also enjoys taking part in print exchanges and often participates in the International Print Exchange and the annual 20:20 print exchange between print studios.  As a member she also supports exhibitions run by Ashby Art Club, Derby Embroidery Group, Derby Sketch Club, Green Door print workshop and the Outdoor art exhibition run by Ashby Art festival .Hhe often exhibits at the Banks Mills Open studios events.

Marie  held a joint art exhibition with Larry, her husband, at Sharpes Pottery, Swadlincote and then this exhibition moved to Burton on Trent Library art space.   She also held a joint Exhibition with Chrissy Stangroom and hosted by Green Door Print Studio, Derby, see www.greendoor-printmaking.co.uk/product-tag/figurative-fancies .

Marie had had great fun taking the photographs and making  the pictures and prints on this web site. She hope you enjoy looking at them.
